Character Roles

As the onion gets peeled further and further, I realize that LOST has created Character roles based on the structure of the "traditional" literary group of roles in literature, known as The Command Roster (with some influence of the The Five Man Band). Typical roles that are used in traditional writing, however,  LOST actually assigns the game pieces these literal/comic roles based on the traditional Command Roster and more. Finally we sense a finite and logical use of the roles!

We can notice many references to these roles over the seasons.   Remember, these roles are dynamic and can be applied to different characters at different times. (In the Card game format , these roles will actually have their own "playing card" and are applied to Character Cards)

tvtropes.org gives us many great details of the Command Roster and more.

The Command Roster   (look them up, these are actually literal roles that are used in triditional writing and comics , after looking at them over, there is no doubt that LOST has fixed them as Character Roles, ah la, game piece attributes.)

Leader (The Captain)- The Leader of the Group.

Advisor (Number Two) - 2nd in command to the Leader, the go to guy. also called The Advisor in LOST.

Engineer (Mr. Fix it ) -  Anything Technical and is known as a universal repairmen.  Damn it Captain! I'm given it all she's got!

Communications Officer - Duty is to setup the the communications and radio resources. Also involves radio quipment repair. In LOST, the Communications Officer allows a logical "connection" to Game Objectives.

Scientist - Very Intelligent

Translator (The Linguist) - Speaks multiple languages and connects the group to foreign groups.

Doctor (The Medic) - Leading medical Doctor

Diplomat  (The Heart) - takes care of the teams social well being, a peacekeeper role.

Sheriff  (The Security Officer) - source of weapons and equipment. enforces laws and wrong doings.

Soldier (The Marine) - The strong physical fighter that is capable of getting things done, able to take on opposing forces on their own

Pilot/Driver - Often the Trek leader, gets the team from one place to another. Actually allows the logical connection to game objectives.

Other roles LOST uses

Hero -  I'm thinking LOST has separated the Hero role with the Leader role.  ex Charlie was a Hero when he retrieved Aaron in season one and yet he was not a leader.

Guard (The Protector) - responsibility is to protect one or more group members,  does not attack unless the group is attacked 1st.  Im thinking their are many different type of Guard roles: Father, Mother, Wife/Husband,

Prince -

Princess

Cook  - Chef, Waiter, Server, Food gatherer

Martyr (Hunter) -  necessary  killer for the greater good.

Trickster - Can be the Con Man.

Mentor

Physicist / Mathamatician

Criminal - Cowboy, Terrorist, Hitman, Fugitive, Murderer

The Five Man Band  (can be compared to the Command Roster)

The Hero (Compared to the Captain)- the Leader of the group, charismatic, serious and driven,  strives to help others.

The Lancer/Advisor (Compared to Number 2) - 2nd in command, usually a contrast to the Hero with  opposite personalities.

The Smart Guy (Compared to the Scientist or Mr. Fix it) -  Very Intelligent and clever, normally physically weak.

The Big Guy (Compared to the Security guard/Sheriff or could be Number 2)- The Strongest physical fighter of  the group, typically a mute or dumb.

The Chick - (Compared to the Heart) A peacekeeper role to balance out the other members aggressions, often considered the heart of the group.

The Sixth Ranger (often an additional role)- joins the group in mid-season , often conflicts with both  Good and Bad  sides , but eventually joins the good side.

I also think that LOST uses the Major Arcana cards and associates them to the Characters. Verdict is still out on if they are game related and whether a Tarot card association corresponds directly to a certain Character role.

The Fool -

The Magician -

The High Priestess -

The Empress -

The Emperor -

The Hierophant -

The Lovers -

The Chariot -

The Justice -

The Hermit -

The Wheel of Fortune -

The Strength -

The Hanged Man -

The Death -

The Temperance -

The Devil -

The Tower -

The Star -

The Moon -

The Sun -

The Judgement -

The World -

Character Role Clues: The Clues of the Character roles serve as an Clue or Indicator to that Character serving that particular Zodiac Sign (and Further, the corresponding Element).  Basically serving as a subset of the Astrology Clues/Indicators.

Neutral Roles:  Do not represent LIGHT or DARK and do not correspond to any of the 12 Sun signs. They are mostly Temporary conditions to a character. Example Neutral Roles are Prisoner and Patient (sick or unconsious).  Any Character of any sign could be in a Neutral Role at any time , depending on game play.

In S2E06  03:21    Sayid says to Shannon, he only carries a gun because he has someone to Protect.  Protector/Guardian. and he was wearing a Grayish Green shirt  the color of Cancer.
