LIGHT and DARK Visual Clues & Indicators  

Clues that show us if the game piece is LIGHT or DARK!

LOST has been using a consistent system of clever visual clues and indicators to signal if a character is currently serving the LIGHT side or the DARK side.

These visual indicators are dominantly on one side of the characters body, the Characters Left side for the LIGHT side and the characters RIGHT side for the DARK side.   

Locke showed us a very important rule.  Two Players, Two Sides, One is Light, One is Dark. He shows us the LIGHT side is on the Left and the DARK side is on the Right.

LIGHT SIDE Clues & Indicators ---------->

LEFT SIDE(to the viewers right): if any of the below visual indicators are dominantly on the LEFT side of a character then that character is serving the LIGHT side at that particular time.

RIGHT SIDE to the viewers left): if any of the below visual indicators are dominantly on the RIGHT side of a character then that character is serving the DARK side at that particular moment.

these indicators can be pretty much anything, but are most commonly:

 Scars

scratches

cuts

blood

mud

dirt

bandaids

extra lighting

Jewelry

Armbands

Raising your arm at a certain time.

Touching the side of your face or head at a certain time.

Touching other characters shoulder or side indicator their service.

Other things are used as well.

Only some characters have indicators on them, not everyone has them. Season 1 had many.

 (Watches are NOT used as indicators, I have checked out which arm they wear their watches on , and they do not match thier roles.)  

 Locke's Scar is a "slash out" -  In Season 1, Locke's scar  on his right eye is actually a "slash out" making his good eye his indicator, Thus Locke is on the Light side.

 It helps to know that LIGHT and DARK members are spread out thru all sets of groups in LOST: losties, tailies, others, freighties, dharma members, past others....all contain LIGHT and DARK members. One group such as the others or the Dharma Initative are not all one sided, they each have LIGHT and DARK members.
