FAITH & SCIENCE

One type of the Clues and Indications used to show us a character's following is Faith  clues and Science clues.

Faith

A Character following faith is an optimist and believes without proof and and doesn't need tangibles to believe. That Character Believes in the Island , Believes in the cause, Believes that things will work out without tangible proof. LIGHT side characters will have Faith in the objectives of the Island, DARK side characters will have Faith that they will be rescued.

Faith Clues  (Clues that tell us when a Character is on the side of "Faith")

is an Optimist / Glass is half Full

Saying I Believe or I have Faith

Science

A Character following SCIENCE is a Pessimist. Doesn't believe anything without seeing proof 1st. Only goes with Tangibles. Needs to see it to believe it.

Hope-  A Key characteristic of SCIENCE is having HOPE.  a character that follows Science doens't have Faith they have Hope. they Hope that things work out on probability etc.

Science Clues (Clues that tell us when a Character is on the side of "SCIENCE")

Pessimist / Glass is half Empty

Saying they don't believe/ or seeks proof

speaks of Hope/ has Hope

FATE & FREE WILL

Another type of Clues that LOST's uses is  FATE Indicators and FREE WILL Indicators, both are used within the dialogue on how characters talk to another .  They are very cleverly used and you have to pay attention to characters dialogs.  The person doing the commanding or asking is the who the clue indicates.

Characters of FATE will use words such as "Must" or "Have to" or "Can't" and commands or demands , they wont ask or give a choice ...they  tell.

Characters of "Free Will" will ask , will say please, always gives choices Even if it seems harsh and demanding , they will throw in a "please" or "asking them".

Although they seem hidden at first,  Once you get use to recognizing the 2 different forms of dialogue , it becomes rather easy to recognize both FATE and FREE WILL Clues/Indicators. To me, they are the one of the easiest to spot.

FATE Indicator

Orders - Tells/orders/or directs someone , without asking them,  gives them no choice.

saying "Must"  or "Have to" or Can't

LUCK - Using or believing in Luck, Chance, or Odds

says "Good Luck"

FREE WILL Indicator

Asks - always gives someone a choice, asks them, doesn't command, no matter how harsh it seems (yep ....  asking someone to do something instead of telling them is a "Free Will" Indicator to that character who is doing the asking.)

Says Please -  a clever way to show a character of FREE WILL who seems to be demanding , throws in a "please".

Says "I Want" -    just says he/she wants, still isn't commanding, still is allowing a choice

Says "I Suggest" or "I Say you do...." - statements that just suggest or speaks of an opinion yet still allows a choice.
